Description

A moist, bakery-style vanilla chocolate combo cake inspired by Publix, made with layers of rich chocolate and soft vanilla cake. Perfect for birthdays, holidays, or any sweet craving.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 3 large eggs

  • 1 cup milk

  • 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract

  • ½ cup Dutch cocoa powder

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • ¼ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease two 8-inch round pans.

  2. Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.

  3. Beat in eggs one at a time.

  4. Mix dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt).

  5. Alternate adding dry mix and milk to the batter.

  6. Divide batter in two: add vanilla extract to one half, cocoa + 2 tbsp milk to the other.

  7. Pour into pans (side-by-side or swirl for marble effect).

  8. Bake 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

  9. Cool completely before frosting.
